Orientation Bash 2006

its the time of the year where new members get together to meet others and get inducted as an official Leo member. the orientation was held at the same place as previous one and it started off at about 10 am. After leo pledge, there were speeches by our president & the OC, Leo Surin. This was followed by the introduction about Leo Club & Lions club by Lion Karen. Then the new members were inducted by Lion Irene followed by the Leo pledge and 3 loud "Roars". The awaited moment has arrived for the exciting game of "amazing race". Members were all broken into groups to solve clues hidden around the campus to proceed to the following statioin. This has definitely instilled teamwork & leadership among the members. =) after the game, lunch was provided and prizes were given out to the winning team.

Activities in the month of August

Painting Project for New Life Restoration Home
This was organized by Leo Shelva to paint the wall fences of the home to provide a better environment for the children. Although everyone has no experience in painting, it was an enjoyable activity. We took a break in between to have lunch with the children. This enable the members to interact with the kids and even played a few games. Despite the changing weather during the day, the everything was done by 4pm and the home looks newer & cleaner. =)

MUSA Street Party – Lucky Draw
Musa Street party was held on the 25th August from 7pm-1130pm at monash parking area. The organizing chairperson for the lucky draw was Leo Janice lai. We had prizes from sponsors like Genting Highland, LOreal, Sunway lagoon, Sunway Pyramid. Before the event, lucky draw tickets were sold at the foyer for only rm1 to reach the target sales of 1500 tickets. During the party, the tickets were drawn every hour for winner to claim their prizes.

Visit to Rumah Love & Care Kajang
Our club Rumah Love & Care Kajang on the 27th August which was organized by our sponsoring Lions Club. Upon arriving at the home, we were warmly welcomed by the person in-charge, Mr Garry who then introduced all the 23 elderly people there. We were there to help them assemble DIY cabinets. After that, we had birthday celebration for 2 people from the home and had lunch together.

Donut Charity Sales
Back due to popular demand!!! This was held only for 2 days (29th-30th Aug) and ALL the donuts were sold really fast. Thus, not all the members voluntered had a chance to participate. But no worries... there'll definitely be many more donut sales in the future. =)

Collar Pin Flag Sales

In conjuction with merdeka Day, we held collar pin flag sales at Sunway Pyramid COncourse area organized by Leo Garry. The sales was held on 30 & 31 Aug from 10am-10pm. This was a fund raising project in aid for New Life Restoration home. The unique collar pin was sold at RM5 per piece and total sales for both days was 188 badges. However we still have 110 unsold badges so members are encouraged to purchase them. =D

Youth Exchangee from Japan

i hosted a 20 years old japanese girl, Minami from Kansai. She was in Malaysia from aug 2-18 but she stayed with me from Aug 11-18 as she had 2 host family. Communication was not a problem as she's majoring in English in her university so she was able to converse well. She was pretty easy-going and was adventurous to try out new things.

During the week, we brought her to Royal Selangor Pewter factory, Malacca, Buddhist temple, Central market, Genting, shopping malls etc. She also tried our local food such as dim sum, wantan mee, "loh she fun", naan, seafood and not forgetting our king of the fruit, durian. Sadly, she couldn't take spicy food. It was a great opportunity to be able to show her how's malaysia like and learn about their culture in Japan as well. I was also given the opportunity to meet other youth exchangee from italy, belgium, norway. This has definitely been a wonderful experience and i encouraged other leo members to apply for this youth exchange programme. =)
